One Response to “what are some of the top colleges for visual arts?”
The top schools for visual arts include:
- Rhode Island School of Design
- The School of the Art Institute of Chicago
- The Cooper Union (which, btw, if you can get in, is free)
Those are the Ivy League of art schools, with RISD clearly #1. Below those, but still very, very strong, are:
- School of Visual Arts
- Pratt Institute
- California Institute of the Arts
- UCLA
- Carnegie Mellon
- Mass Art
- Parsons
- Maryland Institute College of Art
- Otis
- Temple University
- Cranbrook Academy
- Virginia Commonwealth U
- U Michigan Ann Arbor
- San Francisco Art Institute
- School of the MFA/Tufts
There are others as well, but those should get you started. All are extremely well respected in the visual arts. And of course, depending on what you plan to major in, there could be others as well (like FIT for fashion, or USC and NYU for film, or RIT and U New Mexico for photo, or RPI for digital media, SUNY Alfred for ceramics and glass, RIT for print production and wood, etc.)
You should also think through whether you want a pure art school, or a broader college that also has a fantastic art program. The environment, the feel tends to be quite different, as well as the academic requirements and etc.
